This Fetched with Love exclusive reader rescue story was submitted by Liz Mensching and is about her rescued Pit Bull mix named Buddy. Before Liz adopted him, Buddy had been a shelter waiting to be adopted for two years!

I’ve grown up around dogs, but Buddy is the very first dog I’ve had the pleasure of calling my own. In the fall of 2012, I had just moved to the near eastside of downtown Indianapolis. My new route to work took me past F.A.C.E., a low-cost spay/neuter clinic that has a handful of cats and dogs available for adoption.
Driving past the shelter every day was enough to lure me in for a visit. Initially, I went to meet with a petite-yellow Labrador named Lady. The vet tech left me in the backyard with a roaming dog and went to get Lady. By the time the yellow Lab had come out, I’d completely fallen in love with Buddy (the roaming dog from the yard).
It was immediately obvious that he was confident, high-energy and independent. He proudly displayed these traits as he trotted around the yard, arranging piles of fallen fruit, chasing birds from trees and patrolling the perimeter for vines and plants. Asking more about this dog, I found out he was one of the longest residents of the shelter — he had been there about two years! That immediately made me want him even more. (I still don’t understand how this guy was overlooked!)
After watching Buddy run round and round, we went inside, where he immediately gulped down a bowl of water, snacked on a handful of treats, curled up on a fuzzy pink blanket and barfed everywhere. I knew then that Buddy would be a challenge, but that he would always keep me on my toes, and fill my life with energy and love.
